Skilpadvlei Wine Farm derives its charming name from the legendary colony of tortoises that was found in the vlei in the 1800’s. The beautiful piece of land was dubbed Skilpadvlei and has been in the hands of the Joubert family since 1917. Willem Daniel Joubert is the fourth generation currently managing the farm. Facilities at Skilpadvlei include a farm style restaurant, beautiful wedding and conference venue, and country style accommodation with views of the farm landscape and 31.47ha of vineyards.

Skilpadvlei has initiated their own reusing and recycling programme, the farm strives to minimise vehicle usage on the farm in order to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel. Additionally, Skilpadvlei has begun planting new trees at their guesthouses and restaurant. The establishment also implements a comprehensive food waste management system. Furthermore, the farm is presently transitioning towards the utilisation of organic fertilisers and other eco-friendly alternatives. All the used office paper is repurposed as scrap paper and recycled.
Skilpadvlei is moving towards solar energy and has started replacing geysers with solar alternatives.
The farm limits unnecessary driving by either walking to the vineyards or using only one vehicle.
Skilpadvlei has started using organic fertiliser.
Silpadvlei has a recycling service. Colour coded bins keep all items separate.
Cover crops and mulching improve soil health.
Organic farming practices promote biodiversity on the farm.
Through this digital recognition platform, we celebrate the Carbon Heroes taking part in the Confronting Climate Change (CCC) Initiative for their considerable effort in calculating and understanding their carbon emissions.
Each Carbon Hero has their own digital QR code that can be displayed on their website and other marketing material, linking directly to their individual profile on the Carbon Heroes website.
The QR code provides a simple and innovative way for customers to learn about each Carbon Hero’s carbon offsetting and other sustainability initiatives, as well as engage with them on social media and other marketing channels.
With the Carbon Heroes QR code we aim to support a global transition towards sustainable development by recognising and celebrating the positive environmental impact of each Carbon Hero. By having a transparent display of their commitment to reducing emissions, Carbon Heroes demonstrate their dedication to a sustainable future, while building trust in their brand.
