The winery has been recognised as a Hero for its contributions to sustainability in the following areas:
The story of Perdeberg has been driven by the place, people, and passion of the Paardeberg area. Dating back to 1941, the company has been in business for 85 years. The combination of passion, innovation, and a deep respect for the land remains the driving force behind Perdeberg’s success. Perdeberg represents true origins of place, a rich heritage of winemaking, and unbeatable quality wines.
At our cellar, sustainability is at the core of our daily operations. We generate clean electricity from our solar panels and continuously monitor our energy consumption to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible.
Fuel-wise, we prioritise smart and sustainable practices. Our monitoring system records all fuel consumption, and with the help of a planning app, we streamline our trips to ensure efficient transport and reduced environmental impact.
To remain water-wise, our cellar tracks every stage of water flow, from intake to usage and finally to discharge, through dedicated monitoring systems. Staff are equipped with water savers, and we use high-pressure cleaning methods to minimise waste and support responsible water management.
We recognise that healthy soils are the foundation of long-term sustainability. We work closely with our growers to promote responsible soil management practices, including regular soil assessment and reduced chemical impact. All our producers have to be registered members of IPW.
Protection of natural, uncultivated land – our shareholders also pledged to keep 1000ha of natural fynbos veld intact. Within the natural area, a member has registered the J.N. Briers-Louw Nature Reserve, home to the endangered Geometric Tortoise. The reserve was proclaimed in 1972. We are organic certified. We use natural predators to control mealybug in some vineyards.
We incorporate reduce, reuse, and recycle into our daily operations. From minimising unnecessary consumption to reusing suitable materials and ensuring proper recycling systems are in place, we strive to operate as sustainably and efficiently as possible.
