Napier Vineyards is located in the unique region of Wellington in the Western Cape of South Africa, and is named after Sir George Napier, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope from 1837 to 1843. The region’s rich soil diversity allows for the perfect combination of grape variety versus terroir. Napier Vineyards’ focus is on consistent yield and quality as well as careful interaction with nature.
Nowadays, the term “carbon footprint” is often used as shorthand for the amount of carbon (usually in tonnes) being emitted by an organisation or an activity. Reducing humanity’s carbon footprint is of utmost importance, and we as a company, are committed to help slowing down climate change, hence completing the Confronting Climate Change carbon calculator annually – Napier
Napier is committed to reducing their carbon footprint through sustainable practices.
Napier limits unnecessary driving and only makes use of a generator when absolutely necessary during loadshedding.
Napier uses “water guns” on hosepipes to limit water running from hoses. Weekly monitoring of waste water readings also helps conserve water use in the cellar.
All grape press rests go to Brenn-O-Kem. Grape stems are used as feed for cattle and mulching in the vineyards. Napier recycles most of their inorganic waste.
Soil analyses are done before planting new vineyards and cover crops are planted during the winter months between vineyard rows.
The creek gets cleared from invasive alien plants, and anti-erosion corridors are implemented throughout the farm.
Through this digital recognition platform, we celebrate the Carbon Heroes taking part in the Confronting Climate Change (CCC) Initiative for their considerable effort in calculating and understanding their carbon emissions.
Each Carbon Hero has their own digital QR code that can be displayed on their website and other marketing material, linking directly to their individual profile on the Carbon Heroes website.
The QR code provides a simple and innovative way for customers to learn about each Carbon Hero’s carbon offsetting and other sustainability initiatives, as well as engage with them on social media and other marketing channels.
With the Carbon Heroes QR code we aim to support a global transition towards sustainable development by recognising and celebrating the positive environmental impact of each Carbon Hero. By having a transparent display of their commitment to reducing emissions, Carbon Heroes demonstrate their dedication to a sustainable future, while building trust in their brand.
