Napier Vineyards is located in the unique region of Wellington in the Western Cape of South Africa, and is named after Sir George Napier, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope from 1837 to 1843. The region’s rich soil diversity allows for the perfect combination of grape variety versus terroir. Napier Vineyards’ focus is on consistent yield and quality as well as careful interaction with nature.
Napier limites unnecessary driving and makes use of a generator when absolutely necessary during loadshedding.
Napier uses “water guns” on hosepipes to limit water running from hoses. Weekly monitoring of wastewater readings also helps conserve water use in the cellar.
Soil analyses are done before planting new vineyards and cover crops are planted during the winter months between vineyard rows.
The creek gets cleared of invasive alien plants, and anti-erosion corridors are implemented throughout the farm.
All grape press rests go to Brenn-O-Kem. Grape stems are used as feed for cattle and mulching in the vineyards. Napier recycles most of their inorganic waste.
