Located on South Africa’s Garden Route, in the gentle dairy and nursery stock growing area of George, Haygrove Eden is situated about 350 km from their Hermanus site. The farm began operating in 2010 to spread weather- and drought-risk and to meet a growing South African berry demand. In addition to raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, Eden also focuses on growing strawberries all year round.
Haygrove Eden (Pty) Ltd utilises solar energy to power its plant nursery and laboratory, in line with Haygrove’s green energy policy.
Haygrove Eden (Pty) Ltd uses a fully integrate wastewater management plan as part of their Farming for the Future initiative to optimise water usage.
Haygrove Eden (Pty) Ltd uses hydroponic farming with efficient drip irrigation systems, growing all crops in bagged or potted substrates. To manage run-off and reduce erosion, the farm encourages cover crops between rows and allows natural vegetation to grow on tunnel floors. Synthetic fertiliser use is carefully optimised through ongoing testing and monitoring to minimise inputs and reduce waste.
Haygrove Eden (Pty) Ltd sets aside natural wetlands, land, and dams to conserve fauna and flora. In addition, they employ an invasive alien clearing policy, and do make use of a serious IPM, including use of chemical, physical, and biologicals.
Haygrove Eden (Pty) Ltd has a fully established and implemented RRR (reduce/reuse/recycle) policy as part of their Farming for the Future due diligence initiative.
