Lujeri grows and processes high-quality tea on its estates beneath the imposing Mount Mulanje, the highest point in Malawi. The company also processes significant volumes of green leaf from over 15,000 smallholder farmers across its four factories. These farmers receive prompt monthly payments and half-yearly bonuses based on factory profits and the auction prices achieved at the weekly Limbe tea auction.

Electricity is required to operate machinery in the factories and irrigation pumps on the estates. Lujeri generates approximately 30% of its electricity requirements through two hydroelectric power plants that it owns and operates on the estate. Both plants were commissioned in the 1930s and together supply one megawatt of power.
The water reticulation system returns all water used by the two hydroelectric power stations to the river, helping to minimise the impact of electricity generation on water availability.
Lujeri meets all its fuelwood requirements by harvesting wood from its own woodlots, making the company self-reliant in this regard. The company also describes this aspect of its operations as carbon neutral. New technology and the availability of alternative fuels, such as macadamia shells, are expected to further reduce its carbon footprint in the future.
