Waterberg Berries is a proud Ozblu farmer situated in the majestic Waterberg range of Limpopo, South Africa. “Customer First” is their motto. Using the latest technology and the best consultants and knowledge, Waterberg Berries strives to achieve optimal production with the least impact on the environment. Waterberg Berries loves what they do – sustainably produce superior quality blueberries.
Waterberg Berries embraces sustainability by believing in continuous improvement, innovation, ongoing learning and respect for diversity – Waterberg Berries
Waterberg Berries is committed to sustainable practices. The farm has installed solar geysers and a solar pump at their staff accommodation. Waterberg Berries plans to expand the use of solar power throughout the entire farm. The farm prioritizes biological pest and disease control through collaboration with “Field Bugs” and the cultivation of predator-friendly gardens. To support natural predators, the only vegetation slashed is between orchard rows, avoiding the use of sprays that would eliminate their hiding places.
A solar pump and solar geysers at staff accommodation supplies 122 kWh per month and they are planning to expand the use of solar power soon.
Driving is limited to only necessary trips and the speed cap is limited to 20 km/h on the farm.
Waterberg Berries’ skilled agronomy team recommends the appropriate use of fertilisers.
To ensure optimal irrigation management, Waterberg Berries measures drainage levels on a daily basis.
A local business recycles Waterberg Berries’ glass, paper and cartons, and organic waste is composted on the farm.
Waterberg Berries allows natural vegetation to thrive between orchard rows. Carbon values are assessed annually and compared with previous years’ data.
A 270Ha area that is not farmed is set aside for conservation. We also practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and clear invasive alien vegetation annually.
Through this digital recognition platform, we celebrate the Carbon Heroes taking part in the Confronting Climate Change (CCC) Initiative for their considerable effort in calculating and understanding their carbon emissions.
Each Carbon Hero has their own digital QR code that can be displayed on their website and other marketing material, linking directly to their individual profile on the Carbon Heroes website.
The QR code provides a simple and innovative way for customers to learn about each Carbon Hero’s carbon offsetting and other sustainability initiatives, as well as engage with them on social media and other marketing channels.
With the Carbon Heroes QR code we aim to support a global transition towards sustainable development by recognising and celebrating the positive environmental impact of each Carbon Hero. By having a transparent display of their commitment to reducing emissions, Carbon Heroes demonstrate their dedication to a sustainable future, while building trust in their brand.
