Springfield Estate is a family-owned wine estate located in the Western Cape of Southern Africa. Springfield Estate’s commitment to quality is reflected in their motto, Made on Honour, which guides every aspect of the business. Springfield Estate believes that the character and individuality of their grapes should shine through in their wines, which are made using natural yeast and single vineyard techniques.
Springfield has 440kW of solar, with more in planning, used for the cellar, office, and irrigation pumps.
The farm does most of the farming with quadbikes, which has lower fuel consumption than diesel tractors.
The farm conserves water with drip irrigation and a deeper reservoir. Cellar wastewater is cleaned and purified through a wetland system and reused.
Springfield Estate improves soil health through cover cropping, mulching, and homemade compost made from chicken manure, grape skins, straw, and cleared invasives. Ozonated water is used for irrigation, boosting nitrogen naturally and reducing fertiliser use.
Springfield Estate preserves green belts as biodiversity corridors, minimises spraying by encouraging natural predators, and actively removes invasive species such as black wattle and blue gum.
Glass, paper and plastic is recycled by a third party. Organic waste is composted, and wastewater is purified.
