Situated in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, Creation Wines is blessed with one of the most biodiverse wine regions in the world. Creation is passionate about the preservation of the natural environment for generations to come through sound practices that not only maintain but also renew. Creation is one of only nine wineries in South Africa to have received EnviroWines accreditation and was recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence as WWF Conservation Champion.
By participating in the Carbon Heroes initiative, we aim to demonstrate our commitment to sustainable development, reduce emissions, and build trust in our brand, all while contributing to a global transition towards sustainability. This has enabled us to compare our current status to the rest of the industry and identify areas where we can make a difference to reduce our footprint – Creation Wines
Creation Wines installed 200 solar panels in 2022, which produces 80kWh. This supplies enough electricity to generally power the winery and tasing room outside of peak harvest hours.
Multirow spray pumps are used at Creation Wines to minimise tractor use. Regular maintenance ensures that vehicles operate at optimum and are at their most fuel efficient.
Organic fertilizers are used together with mulching and cover crops. All vineyard material is composted and returned to the soil.
Water consumption is carefully monitored at Creation Wines through a metering system. All hoses are fitted with high pressure/low volume nozzles to minimize water waste. Drip irrigation systems are used in the vineyards and are only used where necessary.
All organic material is composted and 90% of non-organic material is recycled.
Cover crops are planted in late Autumn to assist against erosion in winter, improve soil health and structure, and suppress weeds, pests and diseases through the release of allelopathic substances. Creation Wines plants diverse cover crops, which increase the biodiversity of habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects, these remain untilled to preserve the integrity of the soil.
A comprehensive alien clearing and rehabilitation programme is complimented with Bioblitz initiatives. 15ha of movement corridors allow naturally occurring wildlife to roam freely. Natural predators such as wasps are released. Owl and bat houses allow for natural pest control.
Through this digital recognition platform, we celebrate the Carbon Heroes taking part in the Confronting Climate Change (CCC) Initiative for their considerable effort in calculating and understanding their carbon emissions.
Each Carbon Hero has their own digital QR code that can be displayed on their website and other marketing material, linking directly to their individual profile on the Carbon Heroes website.
The QR code provides a simple and innovative way for customers to learn about each Carbon Hero’s carbon offsetting and other sustainability initiatives, as well as engage with them on social media and other marketing channels.
With the Carbon Heroes QR code we aim to support a global transition towards sustainable development by recognising and celebrating the positive environmental impact of each Carbon Hero. By having a transparent display of their commitment to reducing emissions, Carbon Heroes demonstrate their dedication to a sustainable future, while building trust in their brand.

By signing up to the platform each Carbon Hero acknowledges that they are responsible for the information they share and that, by sharing their sustainability credentials, their information is in the public domain and open to be scrutinised. We welcome such scrutiny. We have a clear set of guidelines for the use of the platform and the qualification for the various digital labels, and reserve the right to revoke the use of the platform where it is found these guidelines are not being followed and/or the information posted is misaligned with the stated ethos.
