Situated in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, Creation Wines is blessed with one of the most biodiverse wine regions in the world. Creation is passionate about the preservation of the natural environment for generations to come through sound practices that not only maintain but also renew.
Creation Wines installed 200 solar panels in 2022, which produce 80 kWh. This supplies enough electricity to generally power the winery and tasting room outside of peak harvest hours.
Multirow spray pumps are used at Creation Wines to minimise tractor use. Regular maintenance ensures that vehicles operate at optimum and are at their most fuel efficient.
Creation Wines carefully monitors water consumption using a metering system. Hoses are equipped with high-pressure, low-volume nozzles to minimize waste, and drip irrigation is used in the vineyards only when necessary.
At Creation Wines, cover crops are planted in late autumn to prevent soil erosion, enhance soil health, and naturally suppress pests and diseases. A diverse mix supports biodiversity, particularly for pollinators. The crops are left untilled to protect soil integrity, and organic fertilisers, mulching, and composted vineyard material are applied to promote sustainability.
A comprehensive alien clearing and rehabilitation programme is complimented with Bioblitz initiatives. 15 ha of movement corridors allow naturally occurring wildlife to roam freely. Natural predators such as wasps are released. Owl and bat houses allow for natural pest control.
All organic material is composted and 90% of non-organic material is recycled.
