AP Vos & Seuns is a family business that was first established in 1953. The third generation is currently in management and the fourth generation has recently started getting involved. The farm is situated in Mpumalanga in Kiepersol, about 20km from Hazyview and 60km from Nelspruit. The farm produces Macadamia Nuts and all the trees are bearing.
After a very difficult season with low prices and an unsteady economy, AP Vos & Seuns realised that the farm needed to start saving money and do their planning better. Alongside this came the realisation and prioritisation of helping make the world a better, healthier place.
AP Vos & Seuns only uses their pumps to fill reserve dams in Eskom’s green times. Most of the irrigation on the farm is done with gravity fed irrigation. The farm is in the process of converting all their pumps to solar power. AP Vos & Seuns only carry out irrigation when necessary and make use of rainwater as far as possible.
AP Vos & Seuns has gravel roads with speed-caps on all of the roads on the farm. There is also an active limitation of unnecessary driving; not only to optimise fuel usage but also to save time and money.
After harvest, each season, all the trees are pruned and all of the pruned branches are chipped and mulched. This is spread under the trees.
AP Vos & Seuns makes use of probes that are planted in different areas on the farm. Water is managed according to the probes and irrigation is only used when necessary.
AP Vos & Seuns is busy with an EM program in which micro-organisms are irrigated into the soil in order to assist with better absorption and soil heath. The farm also manufactures its own compost to use on the farm when necessary and has made use of cover crops.
Through this digital recognition platform, we celebrate the Carbon Heroes taking part in the Confronting Climate Change (CCC) Initiative for their considerable effort in calculating and understanding their carbon emissions.
Each Carbon Hero has their own digital QR code that can be displayed on their website and other marketing material, linking directly to their individual profile on the Carbon Heroes website.
The QR code provides a simple and innovative way for customers to learn about each Carbon Hero’s carbon offsetting and other sustainability initiatives, as well as engage with them on social media and other marketing channels.
With the Carbon Heroes QR code we aim to support a global transition towards sustainable development by recognising and celebrating the positive environmental impact of each Carbon Hero. By having a transparent display of their commitment to reducing emissions, Carbon Heroes demonstrate their dedication to a sustainable future, while building trust in their brand.
